Q: How does casting and auditions work?

All students in the program are cast in the show. The first day of the program is a dynamic exploration of the show. Students along with their Theater Coach will dive into the plot and characters of the show. Students will learn an ensemble dance routine. Audition pieces will be reviewed, and mock auditions will take place. On the second day of the program, auditions will be held . The audition environment is an encouraging one. Each camper will engage in an individual acting and vocal audition. These auditions are designed to build each student’s confidence. Rooted Tree productions are committed to meeting each child where they are and nurturing their growth as an actor and as an individual.

Can my child just do stage crew?

No, enrollment in the program exposes students to the many elements of theater. We will explore prop creation and discuss set design but there is no “just stage crew” category. All students are active members of the musical production.

Can my child just ensemble?

Yes, prior to the audition , the students will be given time to complete an audition form. One of the categories asks the student what role(s) they are most interested in portraying. Students who select ensemble will complete the individual acting portion of the audition and then complete the vocal audition with a group of students . The auditions are there to instill confidence. So even if a student does not aspire to have speaking lines in the show, we have them audition as practice for public speaking.

Does my child need experience to participate?

No, Our programs serve beginners through advanced students. We meet kids where they are and grow them from there.

How can parents get involved?

Volunteer! It takes a village to produce a musical production! At the parent information session/ student workshop we will discuss the many ways in which parents and guardians can get involved. No amount of volunteerism is too small!

What if my child can only attend one night a week?

We will work with your family schedule! Rooted Tree wants to make this program as accessible as possible to students and their families. Commitment to a minimum of one night a week and all dress rehearsals is required .
